During the past 400 million years’ geological history, Zhangjiajie global geopark has experienced changes of climate and environment as well as the evolution of animals and plants. Now there are still many fossils can be found in the geopark, such as oriental saber-toothed ivory fossils, rhino molar tooth fossils, the giant panda skull fossils, antlers fossils, spirifer fossils and so on. There are also many kinds of prehistoric relic plants, such as dovetree, ginkgo, metasequoia and so on and all these are called living fossils according to the archaeology terms.
