Various ethnic groups, largely Tujia and Miao, have been living in the territory of Zhangjiajie UNESCO Global Geopark and they are very kind and hospitable. They have developed a variety of cultural customs, including Crying for Marriage, Singing Folk Songs, Striking Miao Drums, Waving Hands Dances, Making Bacon with Pickle, Knitting Brocade with various patterns, Living in the Hanging Houses and Tujia batik, etc. These are inherited to the present time and Zhangjiajie is so well known as a "cultural melting pot ". Very importantly, many famous military generals and singers were born or grew up here, including General He Long.
