The museum of Zhangjijaie UNESCO Global Geopark, with an area of 6000 square kilometers, is located in the centre of the global geopark, and its main function is to enhascience popularization on Zhangjiajie geomorphology. The museum received upgradation in 2014, was re-opened to the public on the “45^th World Earth Day”. The museum has an exhibition area of more than 1000 square kilometers and an ecological square of 5000 square kilometers.

 

The museum is composed of three thematic parts, namely “Approaching  to Zhangjiajie”, “Protecting Zhangjiajie” and “Experiencing Zhangjiajie”and has 5 halls for a comprehensive exhibition of paleontology, flora and fauna, and historical personage. More than 20 thousand samples of animals, plants, microorganisms, fossils and minerals have been collected by the museum. The museum is free except the 5D experiencing cinema and the movie “Fantastic Fate in Wulingyuan” provides visitors a chance to feel the historic process of Zhangjiaije geomorphology stereoscopically. The museum has become a hot scenic spot of Zhangjiajie UNESCO Global Geopark, and attached a very large number of visitors each year.
