In February of 2004, 25 national geoparks were selected from Europe and Asia as the first round of global geoparks designated by UNESCO, marking the established of Global Geopark Network (GGN). Zhangjiajie Global Geopark is one of them and was officially open to the public on July 5, 2004. To celebrate the 10^th anniversary of these very important events, a week-long celebration has been carried out in Zhangjiajie Global Geopark during July 5-11, 2014. Aiming at promoting geo-science popularization, two newly published books “Illustration of Zhangjiajie Landforms” (Chinese Version for Primary School Students) and “Zhangjiajie: A Dreamland on Earth” (English Version), together with other geopark introductory materials, were presented freely to visitors to the geopark museum.

In addition, more than 300 participants of the 15^th Cross-strait Symposium on Environment, Resource and Ecological Conservation from Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland China joined the celebration and paid a particular visit to the geopark museum. A special issue for the celebration of the 10^th anniversary was also presented in the newspaper of “Zhangjiajie Daily”, outlining the most important achievement since Zhangjiajie Global Geopark was established.
