The Global Geopark Bergstrasse-Odenwald is situated in the southwest of the State of Hesse (Federal Republic of Germany). The Geopark territory takes in approximately 3500 km², between the Rhine valley in the west and the Main valley in the east.The region is bounded to the south by the Neckar valley and to the north by the UNESCO World natural heritage Messel pit. The geopark is featuring with red sandstone which has something in common with the quartz sandstone in the Zhangjiajie global geopark. Moreover, Hesse and Hunan Province are friendly states .The two geoparks became friendly parks in 2006 and reached agreements on information exchange, staff training ,scientific research and so on. In recent years, DetlefPrehn, the vice president of the international training and development association of Germany had a comprehensive visit to Zhangjiajie global geopark and exchanged opinions with geopark managers on further collaboration of the two geoparks.
