During December 21-22, Zhangjiajie UGGp Protection and Development Conference was held successfully in Wulingyuan District of Zhangjiajie City where the geopark is located. Experts, scholars and administrative officers from Committee of World Heritage Experts in the National Forestry and Grassland Administration of China, Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Central South University, Central South University of Forestry and Technology, Geological Museum of Hunan Province, Natural Reserve Center in Forestry Department of Hunan Province, Forestry Division of Zhangjiajie City, University of Groningen in Netherlands and other organizations, representatives of seven sister geoparks including Wangwushan-Daimeishan, Lushan, Dunhuang, Ningde, Longhushan, Funiushan and Xiangxi UGGp, and the administrative staffs and community representatives of Zhangjiajie UGGp, attended the conference, with a total of more than 80 participants.
Theming global geopark protection and development, the conference covers thematic presentations, topic discussion, geopark museum visit, and field investigations. Focusing on geopark management and development, geo-heritage protection and science popularization promotion, tourism development for boosting rural revitalization, and tourism industry development in the situation of normalized epidemic prevention and control, Zhangjiajie, Wangwushan-Daimeishan, Lushan, and Xiangxi UGGp shared their management practices in thematic presentations, while the experts, scholars and administrative staffs of geoparks shared their practices and effects on global geopark management during topic discussions. Finally, a "Declaration of Zhangjiajie UNESCO UGGp Protection and Development Conference¡± was jointly issued. During the conference, participants also visited the recently upgraded Zhangjiajie UGGp Museum, conducted field investigations in Yuanjiajie and Huanglong Cave sub-areas, and provided constructive suggestions for the management, ecological environment protection and other aspects of Zhangjiajie UGGp.
This conference was hosted by the Government of Wulingyuan District of Zhangjiajie City, Management Committee of Zhangjiajie UGGp, Zhangjiajie Wulingyuan Scenic Area and National Forest Park of Zhangjiajie, and co-organized by the Joint Research Center for Zhangjiajie Geomorphology, Geopark Office of Zhangjiajie City, and Zhangjiajie UGGp Museum.
