Under the invitation of Mr Jan Cermak, manager of the Bohemian Paradise UNESCO Global Geopark of Czech Republic, representatives of Zhangjiajie UNESCO Global Geopark visited Bohemian Geopark on Sept. 11. The Bohemian Paradise UNESCO Global Geopark is located in the northeast of Czech Republic, nearly 100 km from Prague, the capital of the country and occupying an area of more than 700 km2. The geopark is very rich in geoheritages, maintains very healthy natural ecosystems and has many amazing historical sites. The main area of the geopark was designated as the first protected area of Czech Republic in 1955. In 2005, it was selected as a European Geopark and a member of the Global Geoparks Network. In 2016, it passed through the revalidation of UNESCO as a UNECO Global Geopark.
During the visit, Mr Jan Cermak and his team members presented a detailed introduction of the development, management and directions for further development of the Bohemian Paradise Geopark. Both sides made detailed discussions on how to more effectively carry out activities in the geoheritage protection, scientific research and popularization, management and development of the two geoparks. To promote healthy and sustainable development, the two geoparks agreed to develop a multi-level and all-round cooperation and to communicate frequently on each geopark’s construction, management, and tourism and culture development. Finally, a MOU for cooperation was signed by the representatives of the two geoparks.
